Growing myopia awareness network

The Global Myopia Awareness Coalition (GMAC) has welcomed the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) as its newest professional association member.

This partnership expands the GMAC’s global network and strengthens its efforts to raise awareness and promote action on childhood myopia worldwide.

Luke Stevens-Burt, chief executive of the BCLA, said: “For several years, the subject of myopia management has been at the forefront of our educational content, featuring prominently at events such as the BCLA Clinical Conference, BCLA Focus and BCLA Asia. We have launched a certificate in myopia management, giving eyecare professionals around the world the opportunity to further their knowledge and improve patient outcomes. We are now delighted to have the chance to build further on this work by joining the GMAC as an association member, partnering with the ophthalmic sector and eye health associations internationally to increase awareness of the increasing prevalence and consequences of a condition that is expected to affect half the world’s population by 2050.”

Olga Prenat, chair of the GMAC, commented: “We are excited to welcome the BCLA as GMAC’s newest member. Their expertise in myopia management, and commitment to advancing eye health, will strengthen our collective efforts. Together, we look forward to raising greater awareness of myopia globally, and encouraging timely intervention for better vision outcomes for children.”
