The importance of sight tests was highlighted in London’s New Year’s Day parade.
Volunteers from Enfield carried placards and wore T shirts with eye chart designs featuring the many different languages spoken in the borough.
Nearly 100 optical professionals took part in the parade. “Every shirt tells a story,” said dispensing optician, Garry Kousoulou, who led the Enfield team. “It’s like wearing our community’s heart on our sleeves.”
Local people, businesses, councillors and Bengali dancers joined the entry. Eyecare firms taking part included Birmingham Optical, Red Eyewear, Goodlooking Optics and Care Optics.
Enfield Mayor Mohammad Islam said the entry was “a living, breathing testament to Enfield’s spirit of inclusivity”.
